Kouturekiss - How To Master Old Hollywood Waves

  1. Using your brush, give your hair a deep side part.
  2. Curl all of your hair in the same direction on each side towards your face. The smaller the barrel of your curler, the more wavy it’ll be in the end. Try your best to have all of your curls be super structured and symmetrical (ie look the same!).
  3. Once all your hair is all curled you should look something like this. Usually perfectly curled hair is not flattering, but for this technique, it’s necessary!
  4. After the curls have cooled completely, use your brush to gently comb out your curls. If your hair likes to hold onto curl, you may need to do this more than once.
  5. Set with your favorite hairspray and/or shine spray.

Et Voilá! Some lipstick and a LBD and you are red carpet ready!

Kouturekiss - Master The Salon Blowout

Do you crave salon worthy hair? Here is a step-by-step guide to getting the best blow-out at home. You’ll need a blow dryer with a nozzle, detangler, a protective serum, a medium to large round brush (depending on how much hair you have) , styling oil and a clip.

  1. Spray de-tangler (like Silken Child Leave-In Detangler) onto wet hair so that it’s protected as you brush it out—always remember, hair is its most fragile when wet. Applying a de-tangler right out of the shower is best; using this type of spray on hair that is in the process of air drying will cause the hair to feel sticky once it’s dry.
  2. Using a blow dryer with the nozzle on, blow your bangs or any stubborn cowlicks that you have first, so that you can control these sections before they start to. I like to pull the rest of my hair back while doing this so that I can focus on the front section.
  3. Once you’ve tamed the front section, let the rest of your hair down and begin to take a little moisture out by blow drying; you’re goal in this step is to end with evenly damp hair. It’s important to keep the dryer moving and to not focus on one section for too long—you don’t want some places to end up dry while others are still wet.
  4. Now apply a small amount of protective serum to the bottom two-thirds of hair (I use Redken Smooth Lock Heat Glide); applying this on damp hair before you begin to use a round brush while protect hair from damage.
  5. Divide hair into two sections; one section at the base of the neck, and one section on top. Clip the top section up so you can focus on blowing out the bottom half. Always aim the blow dryer down, in the same direction that the hair grows, to minimize frizz. Using a round brush to pull sections down will help to smooth hair.
  6. Once the bottom section of hair is completely dry, let down the top section. When drying the top, it’s important to remember to get even tension. Also if sections have started to air dry, wet them down a little so that you can re-dry them using the round brush and blow dryer. This will allow you to control how the hair dries and prevent frizz. Be sure to gently comb through any knots before using the round brush on them.
  7. After your hair is completely dry, gather hair at your crown onto the round brush and aim the blow dryer on this section to add lift at the roots.
  8. Once hair has cooled, go back in with the nozzle off of the blow dryer and flip your head over; begin blowing hair on a cool setting to eliminate frizz and to create a more natural look.
  9. To polish off your look, run styling oil (like Organix Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Dry Styling Oil) through the ends of hair.

Long, straight hair is simple and gorgeous, but it can get boring. A great blow dry can give long locks the volume, body and shine they need to look more beautiful than ever. The key to a great blow out is practiced technique and great product. Follow the tutorial below to give your long hair a salon style blow out in a just a few easy steps.

  1. Start with combed out, wet hair.
  2. Apply a heat protector and Morocaan oil to your hair.
  3. I use two pumps of Biolage heat protector by applying it to the ends of my finger tips and working throughout my damp hair and then follow with about 5 drops of Moroccan oil on the ends of my hair.
  4. Blow dry hair, freely, until it’s almost 100% dry. No diffuser needed for this part.
  5. Section hair into 3 or four sections with claw clips and leave bottom section down. Always start from the bottom-up when blow drying.
  6. Using a large round brush with narrow, take a 2 to 3 inch section of hair, and starting from the ends of your hair, roll the hair around the brush INWARD towards your head.
  7. Add a defuser to your blow drier and start with the nozzle on your rolled-up hair and slowly unravel the hair from the brush, away from your head, using the drier to blow the hair dry as you go. When you get to the ends of your hair, remove the drier and spin the brush a few times on the ends to let it cool and set. This action will give your hair a small turn at the ends.
  8. Repeat steps 4-6 on each section of your hair until you have dried all of it. Always leave the crown for last and you may want to go over your bangs and top layer of hair more than once.
  9. Voila! Now you have volumized, silky, smooth, straight and beautiful hair! I like to finish my hair with Garnier Fructise smoothing cream.
