While new hair trends are constantly popping up, sometimes the best place to look for a great hair stlye is the past! Loose vintage waves are a classic and sexy look that will never go out of style. The best part is that this look is super easy to achieve. Follow the steps below!

Step 1: Start with straight hair.
Step 2: Section off your hair starting at the bottom and working your way up.
Step 3: With a curling iron, take a section of hair and curl in/under towards you, creating a tight ringlet.
Step 4-8: Repeat step 3-9 on the rest of your hair. Curl your hair in towards you, not outwards (otherwise it will flip).
Step 9: Once all hair is in ringlets, using a brush, gently brush out all ringlets. (See final look soft brushed look at step 10)
Step 11: Take your curling iron on the ends of hair and give one final curl flipping hair in/under towards you.

Once finished, you should be left with loose vintage waves that are old school beauty icon worthy! For added glam, add a red pouty lip and you’ll feel red carpet ready!

2 inch curls are the perfect “beach inspired” wave. To get this look, I recommend using a curling rod because, in my opinion, it is easiest to maneuver. I use a really cute pink rod from Remington that I purchased from Target for under $30. However, any similar sized rod should do the job! Here’s how to achieve the curls.

  1. Start off by spraying a heat protectant throughout your hair.
  2. Continue by working a moose into your roots to add volume and to ensure your curls have something to stick to. Moose prolongs the wear of your curls and works to hold them in place.
  3. Part your hair where it naturally parts (mine is right down the middle) and clip up one half to get it out of the way.
  4. Take the half that is down and clip up the top section. To do this, run your finger just above your ear and draw it all the way to the back of your head. Take this portion of hair and clip it over to the other side so you can start curling just the bottom. By curling both the top and bottom portions separately, we will have a more complete curled look.
  5. Take a 1-2 inch section and wrap it around the barrel. For right handed girls (lefties, do the opposite) – when curling the right side of your head, you will hold the barrel downwards on the right side of your body and you will use your left hand to wrap the section of hair around the barrel. You want the curls to flow away from your face, so for the right side, you should start by wrapping the section above the curling rod, clockwise, around the back. Hold the hair in place for 5-8 seconds and then let go of the tip and catch the curl in your hand. Hold the curl for an additional 2-3 seconds so that it cools down and sets in its shape, as appose to becoming straighter.
  6. Continue curling the same way to the entire bottom section and then the top, leaving your front pieces of hair aside.
  7. When you get to the front portions of your hair, separate them as they naturally do. We want to curl these a little more naturally and loosely since these are the strands that will frame our face.
  8. To do this, wrap the curl a little more loosely around the rod and stretch the strand amongst the length of the rod. We want the curl to be looser so the hair should spiral around the rod in the most lengthy way possible – meaning we want each spiral to be far away from the previous one – taking up the entire length of the rod.
  9. Repeat the same steps to separate the hair on the other side. However, note that the rod will have to be handled differently. For right handed girls (again, lefties, do the opposite) — when curling the left side of you head, hold the rod with your right hand and bring it across the back of your neck, pointing it downwards. Use your left hand to wrap a 1-2 inch section around the barrel. To ensure the curls are flowing away from your face, take the section above the rod and move it behind in a counter-clockwise direction.
  10. Again, be sure to catch the curls in your hand after releasing them from the rod, and curl the front pieces more loosely so they flow better.
  11. When you’re completely curled, finish off with hairspray to hold everything in place.

Enjoy!
