Colored shadows can be tricky to work with, but you can’t go wrong with shades of brown and copper since it works well with practically every skin tone and eye color. Browns are great for everyday wear since the natural shadows of your lids are a brownish red. Eyes are the first thing people notice; make them clean, defined, beautiful and not too distracting. You want people to notice you, not your heavy makeup so here’s a way to give your eyes that bit of pop it needs without being overdone. This is a great basic everyday look that can be changed up easily and worn for any occasion.

Step 1: Start with clean eyes and apply primer all over the lid up to your brow bone. Elf Primer is a great alternative to Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. For only 1 dollar compared to a 20 dollar primer, it’s a must have.
Step 2: Apply a red toned brown shadow all over the lid up to the crease with a wide blending brush. Mac’s Brown Script is matte and has great pigmentation with no fallout.
Step 3: Sweep the copper shimmer shadow from the inner corner to the middle of the lid with a small flat shader brush. The middle of your lid is the highest point of the lid and will make your eyes appear larger and add more dimension once it reflects. These Maybelline single shadows have great pigmentation, don’t smudge or crease, and are affordable.
Step 4: Apply brown shadow with a crease brush in outer V blending towards the center of your crease.
Step 5: Use a liner brush to line the bottom lash line with the same brown shadow to define your eyes softly without giving them a harsh line a liner would. Avoid taking it all the way to the inner corners. Focus on the outer corner your bottom lash line blending it towards the middle.
Step 6: Blend the crease shadow between lid and brown bone with a blending brush and a cream shimmer shadow to help it stand out and appear higher.
Steps 7-9: These next steps are totally optional since this look can be worn more naturally without any liner and mascara alone, but I personally prefer liner. Apply a copper toned liner in the waterline and line your upper lash line with a black liquid liner close to the lash line, slightly winging out to elongate the eyes.
Step 10: To finish it off, top it off with mascara on the upper and lower lashes to open up the eyes.

This is an extremely versatile look that can be changed from day to night just by adding more brown to the crease, thickening the line of your liner, adding more coats of mascara, or lining the bottom lash line with a shimmery copper toned shadow or a colored shadow for more drama. Enjoy playing around with this look and trying out copper tones!

Along with purple, green is said to be the most complimentary shade for us brown eyed girls. Because of this, I have created a green smoky eye that is perfect for summer because it has a touch of gold under the waterline. These shades work perfectly with one another to create a summery look that is so beautiful with brown eyes.

  1. Start off with a green base all over your lid. I used a green liner for this step and lightly blended it across my lid. This will make the greens truly pop.
  2. Lightly sweep a olive green color across your lid and blend it lightly towards your crease.
  3. Add a light and shimmery green color to the inner portion of your lid and sweep it into your inner corner. This will highlight your adds and add a summery touch, while still keeping the look smoky.
  4. Redefine and lighten your inner corner with a shimmery white shade. Use a small brush to reach the area and blend it upwards into the light green.
  5. Take your olive shade again with the same brush and sweep the color into your crease and drag it upwards. Keep your eye open to see how far up to blend. Build this color until you feel comfortable with its intensity.
  6. Take a shimmery gold color and drag it underneath your waterline to add a pop of color. Golds work really nicely with the olive green shade.
  7. Line your lid with a black liner and add a little wing at the end if you choose to! Feel free to line your waterline with black liner as well.
  8. Add two coats of mascara and you’re all finished!

Good luck trying out this look! It’s extremely simple but definitely spices up your everyday look. Try incorporating greens into your makeup whenever possible to really make your brown eyes stand out!

Colorful smoky eyes are so fun for summer, and blues are a perfect color for any brown eyed girl to rock. This smoky eye is so simple and vibrant and can be completed in 8 simple steps. Enjoy recreating this mermaid-like, beach inspired smoky eye!

  1. Start off with a white base all over your eyelid and blend it evenly. White bases work to create a foundation for your shadows, making them much brighter and more vibrant. Use any cream eyeshadow or even a liner for this step.
  2. Apply a bright turquoise blue shade all over your lid, as well as underneath your lashline. Choose a blue that will pop, even after other shadows are blended over top. This color is the focus of your look and the brighter the better!
  3. Choose a yellow-based green color to highlight your inner corner. Focus this on the inner corner but work it into the blue color on your lid, as well as with the blue on your lower lashline. Lightly blend until the colors work nicely into one another.
  4. Take a blue based purple and using a blending brush, work this color into your crease. Blend it downwards into the blue shade so a gradient between the colors appears. Use windshield-wiper motions to evenly distribute the color among your crease. Be patient and truly blend out the colors for this step for the smokiest outcome.
  5. Take a deep purple or black shade and lightly tap this into your outer corner to add definition. Similarly work this color into the rest to ensure they work nicely into one another.
  6. Add black liner to your top lid using a liner brush. Use pencil liner to add black into your waterline, if you choose to.
  7. Apply a coat of mascara.
  8. Finish off with 1 more coat of your favorite mascara and you’re ready to go!

Purple is my absolute favorite color to play up with my eye makeup – and the color beautifully compliments all brown-eyed girls. Because it’s summer, I like to incorporate bright purples. I also wanted to achieve a natural and wearable look, so I decided to use this bright purple “pop” only in my crease as opposed to all over the lid.

  1. Start by applying a purple base to the lid and a bright white base to the inner corner. These base colors do not need to match any future colors you will be applying – they will mainly serve to make the shadows more pigmented. Use any liner or cream eyeshadow you have in your collection for this step.
  2. Apply a deep purple shade to your lid using a lid brush – any shade that you have and are comfortable with will work perfectly! Make sure the shade is not too bright – a deep grey-purple would be the ideal option.
  3. Apply a bright white or beige color to your inner corner with a flat shader brush to highlight this part of your eyes. This will make your eyes look brighter and will help neutralize the darkness of the lid color. Feel free to densely pack this color (and even reapply it at the end).
  4. Using a crease brush, take your bright purple shade and apply it to your crease. Use windshield-wiper motions to bring the color around the perimeter of your lid and blend it out and upwards.
  5. Taking a blending brush and your highlight shade from step 3, blend out the bright purple to make it more smokey and less harsh. This will make the bright purple fade out into a much nicer gradient.
  6. Using the same crease brush from step 4, take a little bit of a black shadow to define your outer corner. Lightly blend this color into the outer “v” of your eye to dramatize the look.
  7. Apply a black liner to your top waterline and add a wing if you’d like! I did this step using a gel liner and a pointy brush, but use whatever liner you feel comfortable with.
  8. Apply a purple liner to your lower waterline to really emphasize the purple in the look. Follow with two coats of mascara.

Tip: Keep the rest of the look neutral and natural. For lips, try adding a light pink gloss. You’ll be good to go!
