Kouturekiss - Take Off Your Makeup With Coconut Oil

Want a more natural (and cost efficient) way to take off your eye makeup at night? I use coconut oil (pure extra virgin and organic is the best!) and my makeup comes off smoother and quicker than any other expensive makeup remover I’ve used before! If it gets on your skin you don’t have to worry about chemicals leeching in – coconut oil is actually great for helping your skin glow and keeping it moisturized! Plus, it smells delicious!

  1. Just tab a little coconut oil on your hand to warm. Dip cotton ball in warmed coconut oil.
  2. Gently “rub” makeup off your eyes, just like you would with a standard eye-makeup remover. Don’t rub too hard, as the skin around your eyes is very delicate and prone to wrinkling. (Who wants wrinkles at 25? Not me!) Instead, blot in sweeping motions. Use as much oil as is needed.
  3. Finally, take a clean cotton ball and rub off any excess oil left on your skin. Repeat until eye is clean and makeup free. Voila! Works like a charm!

So next time you run out of makeup remover, try this 100% natural home-remedy first (olive oil works as well)!

We are all looking for the best body scrub to leave our skin silky smooth. The problem is we don’t want to break the bank. Instead of spending the big bucks for the latest exfoliators or spa treatments, why not make your own?  I’ve come up with a recipe for the perfect scrub that will leave your skin smooth, fresh and clean without any irritation. Want to know the best part? Everything you need is waiting for you in your kitchen cabinet!

  1. You’ll need salt and sugar (more of one, depending on the type of scrub you want), olive oil, and honey.  You need one part oil to two parts sugar or salt.
  2. For an average amount of the scrub, take ½ cup of salt or sugar. I decided to use sugar, since it tends to be gentler on the skin, and add it to a large mixing bowl.
  3. Then take ¼ cup of olive oil (regular or extra virgin) and add it to the salt or sugar.
  4. After you’ve added the olive oil, add two tablespoons of honey for extra benefits. The honey acts as an adhesive for the scrub and it also is amazing for your skin.
  5. Add a few sprinkles of either salt or sugar, whichever you didn’t use in step 2.
  6. Mix everything together and there you go! You have your own natural exfoliator (made from your kitchen!) in less than 5 minutes!

Now its time to hit the shower or bath to give your body the ultimate skin smoothing treatment!

The importance of washing your brushes is, well, important! If you use them everyday, there could be a colony of bacteria having a fun time in the expense of your face (breakouts, anyone?). Makeup brushes should be washed at least once a week, maybe more depending on the products – like type of foundation, blush, etc. The best way is to use a mild soap and warm water. This will keep your brushes soft and in great shape for years to come. Your skin will thank you later.

  1. Fill up your sink with some warm water and add a couple of drops of a mild soap. I’m using castile soap which is 100% natural and made of oil, which if you remember science class – like attracts like - it will remove every speck of dirt and oil from your brushes without stripping them with harsh chemicals. Plus, you can use this soap for everything because it is always very gentle; I use it as a makeup remover.
  2. While your brushes soak for a couple of minutes, add a drop or two of soap to the palm of your hand and take a brush and swirl it in the soap. This is how you individually clean them–you will also see how much makeup gets left behind!
  3. Run the brush under more warm water and squeeze out the excess. Repeat until all brushes are clean.
  4. Lay them out on a towel in a cool, ventilated place (mine is around my window) and allow them to naturally air dry preferably overnight.

And that’s it! Keeping your brushes clean prolongs their life while also ensuring you will not develop any breakouts from the copious amounts of bacteria. So remember: repeat this at least once a week.

When it comes to the face, us ladies don’t mess around. We know the importance of maintaining great healthy skin now to prevent problems in the future. Upgrading everything from our makeup and moisturizers, this is something we take very seriously as it will make a huge impact later on. But what about our skin cleansers? Aren’t they all created equally? – Not by a long shot! The fact that skin cleansers main purpose is to remove all the makeup, dirt, and oils from our skin can be a little misleading. What a lot of people don’t know is that if you don’t use the correct skin cleanser for your skin type, you can end up with dry, stripped skin that is anything but healthy. This is especially true for those of us with combination skin. While oily skin types shy away from heavy products and dry skin types stock up on moisturizers, those in the middle may feel a little lost. Well the days of wondering what works perfectly for the ‘in-between’ skin type are over. Here are five skin cleansers that will work great for combination skin:
