It is super simple to achieve and it is an easy way to experiment with the ombre trend, except this time, on your eyes! When your eye is shut, you can see the silver gradient as the colors blend and mesh into one another. It can be mastered in a few simple steps and little time.

  1. Start off with 3 base shades – a black, a white and a silver. These can be anything form eyeliner pencils, to creme shadows to eyeshadow sticks. They are simply for the purpose of intensifying the gradient of the colors and giving the shadows something to stick to. Apply a white base in the inner corner and inner fourth of the lid. Take a silver shade and apply it to the inner half of the lid. Finally, use a black shade and apply it to the outer corner of your lid. These bases will give you a good assessment of where to place and blend the rest of your colors!
  2. Start with a black shadow and a blending brush and apply it where you applied your base. Use light, sweeping motions, focusing on the outer crease and outer corner of the eye.
  3. Take a silver color and pack it onto the lid, covering portions of the black color. Be sure to blend the two together with a fluffy blending brush until you cannot see where their portions separate. Do the same with a white sparkly shadow in the inner corner. Blend gently with the silver (using a new, clean blending brush) until the same type of gradient appears.
  4. Apply a sparkly silver shadow to the center of your lid to add an extra pop of sparkle. Blend this color lightly enough to still give it prominence in the eye look.
  5. Apply a thin black liner to the top of your lid, as well as on the waterline if you choose.
  6. Apply two coats of your fave mascara and you’re all set!

Enjoy!

A Late Summer Sunset-Inspired Smokey Eye http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/a-sunset-inspired-smokey-eye http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/a-sunset-inspired-smokey-eye#comments Fri, 07 Sep 2012 16:00:54 +0000 http://kouturekissbeauty.com/?p=15227 What better way to embrace the natural colors of a late summer sunset than in your eye makeup? This look incorporates the colors of the warm summer sun, while still being a wearable and fun look for any night out. It’s super simple and extremely eye-catching once completed. Here’s how to get the look.

  1. Start off by applying a warm, orange-toned base to your lid and a white base to your inner corner. This will make the orange shadows later applied feel warmer and more vibrant on your lid, while the white in the inner corner will work as a brightening agent for highlighting.
  2. Apply a light, warm-toned orange shadow over the orange base on your lid. Pack this color on generously until there is a nice color payoff. Sometimes with lighter colors, it is hard to make the color truly stand out. Don’t give up and apply a couple of layers of the color until you are happy with it!
  3. With a blending brush, apply a deep red shade into your crease. With sweeping motions, gently work this color into the orange, while also blending it upwards. Take time with this step and blend and reapply until you are happy with the color gradient. When you open your eyes, you want the red color to gently peek through overtop your crease, so open your eyes during this step frequently to check if you have achieved this effect.
  4. Take a yellow shade and apply it to your inner corner over the white base, as well as the center of your lid. Applying a light color to the center of your lid and gently blending it out will not only add to your gradient, but will make your eyes appear larger.
  5. Bring the yellow color below you lower lash line from the inner corner to about half way across. Use a purple shade for the other half, from where the yellow ended to the end of your lower lash line.
  6. Line your upper waterline with a purple, and then apply purple into your waterline as well. This purple is one of the most important steps because it really ties the colors of the look together, while adding that natural “pop” to your eye makeup.
  7. Add two coats of your favorite mascara and maybe experiment with some false lashes! For the rest of your face, try a deep red gloss to compliment the red shadows and a natural, warm blush on your cheeks to keep everything simple and accentuating your colorful eyes!

Get The Perfect Volume-Infused Blowout – For The Fine Haired Girl http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/get-the-perfect-volume-infused-blowout-for-the-fine-haired-girl http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/get-the-perfect-volume-infused-blowout-for-the-fine-haired-girl#comments Wed, 22 Aug 2012 13:00:04 +0000 http://www.kouturekiss.com/?p=15108

Fine haired girls have the hardest time achieving volume, only because we have so much less hair to work with. However, there’s tricks and tips to beat the problem and it’s a super easy one to solve!

Before the blowout….

  • Be sure to use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. I use one from Pantene because it is specifically for fine and flat hair and it works to create volume.
  • Spray a thickening spray throughout your hair before drying it – I love the Bumble and Bumble thickening spray because it does the job without changing the texture of your hair.
  • When your hair is wet, toss it up in a bun. This not only minimizes the amount of damage you do to your hair from blowdrying (since you give it some time to air dry), but it gives some dimension and volume to your hair before you even start the blowout!
  • Buy an extension for your blowdryer that focuses the heat. This helps direct the heat into a smaller direction, augmenting the force and precision.

During the blowout…

  • Flip your head over and blow dry your roots from behind. Blowing your hair in this direction adds volume because you’re forcing the roots to dry in a direction that is opposite of the direction it normally dries in. The result… Massive volume.
  • Use a round brush and again blow your hair in the opposite direction of it’s normal flow. Round brushes are an amazing tool when you are trying to achieve tons of volume because they give your hair a small and natural curl that truly adds dimension after drying.

After the blowout…

  • Use a volumizing powder and massage it into your roots. I love the Got 2 B powder because once you work it into your hands, it changes to a more liquid-like consistency that makes it really easy to work into and cling to your roots for a full look.
  • Use a teasing comb at the roots of various strands to really add some dimension. Do this by backcombing your roots until they appear textured and teased.
  • Flip over your head and apply a volumizing hairspray from behind. I love the Big Sexy Hair Spray because it really holds my hair without making my strands feel hard and starchy. Also try covering your face and spray the front of your hair so your front strands appear to naturally flow backwards.

I hope these tips help you add dimension and volume to your hair! Don’t be discouraged by your fine hair when it comes to volume and use these tips to prove it’s no big problem! Have fun!

Spicing up the Everyday Pony http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/spicing-up-the-everyday-pony http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/spicing-up-the-everyday-pony#comments Fri, 10 Aug 2012 13:00:42 +0000 http://kouturekissbeauty.com/?p=15266 I don’t know about the rest of you girls, but I tend to throw my hair back in a ponytail every morning for class. It’s simple, chic, and best of all, it doesn’t get in your face all day. However, it’s fun to spice up the everyday ponytail and give it a fun and feminine twist, a la a braid. It only requires an extra minute in comparison to your traditional pony and makes a noticeable difference. Here’s how to achieve the effortless, casual look.

  1. Start by sectioning off two sections of hair. On one side of your head, take a one inch section from your hair’s normal downward flow and pull it to the front. On the other side, use two fingers, starting at your hairline, and draw them back, almost making a box shape, until they meet. This sounds complicated, but your simply grabbing the front portion of your hair, almost as if you were achieving a half-up/half-down look. The first section should simply fall straight down, while the second section draws backward. This is where the fun of the look comes in – the braids will be structured in opposing directions.
  2. Take the first portion and braid it downwards as you normally do. Secure it at the end.
  3. Take the second section and braid it backwards towards the back of your neck. When completed, secure it.
  4. Now, to form the pony, work with the braids in the directions they naturally will flow in. Take the straight braid and pull it straight back in the direction of your ear. Grab the braid in the main pony.
  5. Take the second portion and pull it back over the top of your head, almost as if you were making a poof. Meet it with the rest of the pony and hold both braids and the pony in your hair.
  6. Before securing the final pony, take this opportunity to smooth out any flyaways or scattered pieces. Then, pull the entire pony together.

And you’re done! The style will look like it took much more effort and time than you actually did and you still will experience the same casual and efficient benefits of your traditional pony. Have fun!

Learn to Apply Faux Lashes like a Pro http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/learn-to-apply-false-lashes-like-a-pro http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/learn-to-apply-false-lashes-like-a-pro#comments Thu, 09 Aug 2012 13:00:45 +0000 http://kouturekissbeauty.com/?p=15268 False lashes seem to make the world of difference in an eye look, but the application process tends to get messy and complicated. Use these steps to make the task a breeze!

  1. Gather your supplies. You’ll need a curler, faux lashes, lash glue, and mascara.
  2. Start off by measuring the false lash against your natural lash. You don’t want the false lash to be any longer lengthwise, so clip the ends if necessary.
  3. Apply a thin layer of lash glue (I love DUO Lash Adhesive in black – it dries black instead of white, making it much easier to conceal with makeup). Focus the glue on the ends of the false lash, as this is where the lashes tend to loosen the easiest.
  4. Hold the lash in a semi-circular shape using two fingers while waiting for the glue to dry. Give it approximately 20-25 seconds, until the glue takes a tacky form.
  5. Using tweezers, close your eyes and apply the false lash to the base of your natural lashes. Hold it in place and keep your eye shut for an additional 20 seconds or so. This will give time for your false lash to form and set — avoiding and messiness.
  6. Afterwards, use the backend of your tweezers and gently press the false lash into place — again focusing on the ends of the lash, which tend to loosen the quickest.
  7. When everything is dried and set, curl your natural and false lashes together, to give them a more blended appearance.
  8. Apply a thin coat on your false and natural lashes, again with a purpose of blending the two together.

… and you’re all done! Be sure to bring lash glue with you in your bag when you go out, just in case your lashes get loose edges. Otherwise, you are set for the rest of the night!

Quick 1" Curls Tutorial For The Fine Haired Girl http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/quick-1-curls-tutorial-for-the-fine-haired-girl-2 http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/quick-1-curls-tutorial-for-the-fine-haired-girl-2#comments Fri, 13 Jul 2012 10:00:55 +0000 http://www.kouturekiss.com/?p=15103 When I think of 1-inch-curls I think of Taylor Swift. Luckily, her curls are simple to achieve, even with fine hair. I recommend using a 1-inch-curling rod to get the look. (I use the Conair Infinity Rod and it runs for $25-30 at drug stores)

  1. Start off by using a heat protectant throughout your hair to protect from any damage.
  2. Next, spray some moose into your palms.
  3. Take the moose and massage it into your roots to add volume and to make the curls hold better. This is an important step for girls with fine hair because without having anything to hold them together, curls will easily fall out.
  4. Part your hair where it naturally parts (mine is right down the middle) and clip up one half to get it out of the way.
  5. Take the half that is down and clip up the top section. To do this, run your finger just above your ear and draw it all the way to the back of your head. Take this portion of hair and clip it over to the other side so you can start with just curling the bottom. By curling both the top and bottom portions separately, as appose to doing them together, we will have a full head of curls for a really complete look.
  6. Now we begin curling! Take 1-2 inch sections of hair at a time and wrap them around the barrel. For right handed girls (lefties, do the opposite) – when curling the right side of your head, you will hold the barrel downwards on the right side of your body and you will use your left hand to wrap the section of hair around the barrel. You want the curls to flow away from your face, so for the right side, you should start by wrapping the section above the curling rod, clockwise, around the back. Hold the hair in place for 5-8 seconds and then let go of the tip and catch the curl in your hand. Hold the curl for an additional 2-3 seconds so that it cools down and sets in its shape, as appose to becoming straighter.
  7. Continue curling the same way to the entire bottom section and then the top, leaving your front pieces of hair aside.
  8. When you get to the front portions of your hair, separate them as they naturally do. We want to curl these a little more naturally and loosely since these are the strands that will frame our face. To do this, wrap the curl a little more loosely around the rod and stretch the strand amongst the length of the rod. We want the curl to be looser so the hair should spiral around the rod in the most lengthy way possible – meaning we want each spiral to be far away from the previous one – taking up the entire length of the rod.
  9. Repeat the same steps to separate the hair on the other side. However, note that the rod will have to be handled differently. For right handed girls (again, lefties, do the opposite) – when curling the left side of you head, hold the rod with your right hand and bring it across the back of your neck, pointing it downwards. Use your left hand to wrap a 1-2 inch section around the barrel. To ensure the curls are flowing away from your face, take the section above the rod and move it behind in a counter-clockwise direction. Again, be sure to catch the curls in your hand after releasing them from the rod, and curl the front pieces more loosely so they flow better.
  10. Once you have a full head of curls, spray all over with hairspray to set them in place. Try adding a headband or clipping back the hair to style it even more and enjoy rocking your 1-inch curls!

Cherry to Watermelon Lip Ombre http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/cherry-to-watermelon-lip-ombre http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/cherry-to-watermelon-lip-ombre#comments Wed, 11 Jul 2012 10:00:07 +0000 http://www.kouturekiss.com/?p=14933 Just like everything else ombre, the lip ombre look is totally in for the season. Just like ombre hair, ombre lips change a look while adding a fun, unique touch. However, unlike ombre hair, lips are simple to create and obviously temporary. So if you’re trying to make ombre moves, the lip ombre is a really easy place to start.

Here’s how to achieve the look:

  1. Start off by lining your lips with any lip liner – just to give a template for where the rest of the colors will go. The color will not show up much so it does not need to perfectly match any of the following lipsticks used.
  2. Apply a red lipstick to your upper lip (possibly using a lip brush to get inside of the lip lines). Follow this step by applying a bright watermelon shade to the bottom lip. (Image 1)
  3. Apply a red gloss to your upper lip and a bright pink gloss to the bottom lip. The glosses will make the blending of the two colors much easier, while the lipsticks applied before will serve more as a base. (Image 2)
  4. Lightly blend your upper and lower lips by tapping them together once to exchange some of each color. This will also make the blending process easier and make it appear more natural.
  5. Apply a glittery, light-reflecting pink shade in the center of your bottom lip to give the true ombre touch. Continue blending the colors together until you have the desired gradient, keeping the glittery pink shade centered on the lower lip. (Image 3)
  6. Once you have a natural blending between the red and pink shades you are good to go! Work with the colors for a while and feel free to reapply any glosses that may have lost their true color in the blending process.

A little bit of advice regarding the application of the rest of your makeup: keep it simple! Make the lips pop by keeping the rest of the colors used in your makeup application muted and simple. This will ensure that your lip is not only the center of your look, but that your overall look is not too overwhelming.

Have fun experimenting!

Mastering Winged Eye Liner & Spicing It Up http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/mastering-winged-eye-liner-spicing-it-up http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/mastering-winged-eye-liner-spicing-it-up#comments Sat, 07 Jul 2012 10:00:03 +0000 http://www.kouturekiss.com/?p=15100

Winged eyeliner is definitely a challenging technique to master – but I’ve laid out the steps for you to make the process as easy as possible. You’ll need a black liner of your choice and a black shadow with an angled brush to create the look. I suggest using a gel liner (or any liner that comes in a pot form) to create a wing because it tends to be the easiest and most forgiving of the liners. If you’re really uncomfortable trying this out, start with using a black shadow on an angled brush and making small swipes along your lid. However, for the purposes of this tutorial, I’m going to explain how to get the look using a gel liner.

To master winged eyeliner:

  1. Start off by simply drawing a line from the end of your lid in the direction of the end of your brow. This gives you a good angle that you can be sure to achieve evenly on both sides. You can draw your line as far out as you want — the longer the line, the more dramatic your wing.
  2. Close your eye and connect the end of the line to the base of your lid at a sharp angle. You will create a triangle shape from this step and will fill in the triangle later.
  3. Line your top lid as you normally would from the inner corner to the outer. Connect this line to the triangle you previously created and then fill the triangle in. Don’t worry about filling in every single sparse area- we will correct this next.
  4. Take a black shadow on an angled brush and fill in any sparse gaps in your liner and correct the shape of your wing. This makes it really easy to perfect your look and also sets your liner so it wears longer and does not smear. If you feel that your wing is still not perfect, try taking eye makeup remover on a q-tip and lightly dragging it along the edges to sharpen and perfect the shape.
  5. Add a coat or two of mascara.
  6. After you’ve mastered your winged liner, try spicing it up a little by adding a metallic color, such as silver, and applying it along your entire inner corner, under your lashline, all the way out following the base of your wing. The color should meet perfectly and work right underneath the black liner once you move past the lashline. This almost creates a “reverse” wing look and totally dramatizes your eyes for nighttime.

Have fun mastering and experimenting with your winged eyeliner!

Quick 2″ Curls For The Fine Haired Girl http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/quick-2-curls-for-the-fine-haired-girl http://kouturekissbeauty.com/hair/quick-2-curls-for-the-fine-haired-girl#comments Thu, 05 Jul 2012 10:00:16 +0000 http://www.kouturekiss.com/?p=15106

2 inch curls are the perfect “beach inspired” wave. To get this look, I recommend using a curling rod because, in my opinion, it is easiest to maneuver. I use a really cute pink rod from Remington that I purchased from Target for under $30. However, any similar sized rod should do the job! Here’s how to achieve the curls.

  1. Start off by spraying a heat protectant throughout your hair.
  2. Continue by working a moose into your roots to add volume and to ensure your curls have something to stick to. Moose prolongs the wear of your curls and works to hold them in place.
  3. Part your hair where it naturally parts (mine is right down the middle) and clip up one half to get it out of the way.
  4. Take the half that is down and clip up the top section. To do this, run your finger just above your ear and draw it all the way to the back of your head. Take this portion of hair and clip it over to the other side so you can start curling just the bottom. By curling both the top and bottom portions separately, we will have a more complete curled look.
  5. Take a 1-2 inch section and wrap it around the barrel.
  6. Continue curling the same way to the entire bottom section and then the top, leaving your front pieces of hair aside.
  7. When you get to the front portions of your hair, separate them as they naturally do. We want to curl these a little more naturally and loosely since these are the strands that will frame our face.
For right handed girls (again, lefties, do the opposite) — when curling the left side of you head, hold the rod with your right hand and bring it across the back of your neck, pointing it downwards. Use your left hand to wrap a 1-2 inch section around the barrel. To ensure the curls are flowing away from your face, take the section above the rod and move it behind in a counter-clockwise direction.
  10. Again, be sure to catch the curls in your hand after releasing them from the rod, and curl the front pieces more loosely so they flow better.
  11. When you’re completely curled, finish off with hairspray to hold everything in place.

Enjoy!

The Green Smoky Eye For The Brown Eyed Girl http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/the-green-smoky-eye-for-the-brown-eyed-girl http://kouturekissbeauty.com/makeup/the-green-smoky-eye-for-the-brown-eyed-girl#comments Mon, 02 Jul 2012 10:00:48 +0000 http://www.kouturekiss.com/?p=15098 Along with purple, green is said to be the most complimentary shade for us brown eyed girls. Because of this, I have created a green smoky eye that is perfect for summer because it has a touch of gold under the waterline. These shades work perfectly with one another to create a summery look that is so beautiful with brown eyes.

  1. Start off with a green base all over your lid. I used a green liner for this step and lightly blended it across my lid. This will make the greens truly pop.
  2. Lightly sweep a olive green color across your lid and blend it lightly towards your crease.
  3. Add a light and shimmery green color to the inner portion of your lid and sweep it into your inner corner. This will highlight your adds and add a summery touch, while still keeping the look smoky.
  4. Redefine and lighten your inner corner with a shimmery white shade. Use a small brush to reach the area and blend it upwards into the light green.
  5. Take your olive shade again with the same brush and sweep the color into your crease and drag it upwards. Keep your eye open to see how far up to blend. Build this color until you feel comfortable with its intensity.
  6. Take a shimmery gold color and drag it underneath your waterline to add a pop of color. Golds work really nicely with the olive green shade.
  7. Line your lid with a black liner and add a little wing at the end if you choose to! Feel free to line your waterline with black liner as well.
  8. Add two coats of mascara and you’re all finished!

Good luck trying out this look! It’s extremely simple but definitely spices up your everyday look. Try incorporating greens into your makeup whenever possible to really make your brown eyes stand out!
