Bronzer can be a bit intimidating for someone with fair skin. I use it sparingly, because, let’s face it, no one is ever going to believe my face is naturally that shade! (I’ve embraced my paleness and look up to Nicole Kidman for inspiration) However, when a spice of color in the warmer seasons can look 100% natural, when applied properly.

When applying bronzer, focus on placement. Bronzer should be applied where the sun naturally hits your face. Lightly sweep bronzer on the forehead, over the bridge of your nose, the middle of your chin and then the apples of your cheeks. Need help finding your apples? Just smile!

Blush is safe, and can brighten/add a little but of “life” to fair skin during any season. When choosing a color, opt for pink and peach-based hues. Stay away from orange tones – they’ll look too harsh and obvious. Lightly dust blush the apples of your cheeks for the most natural look.

Don’t know where to start? Try these products:

  • NARS blush in “Orgasm”it really works for all skin shades
  • NARS bronzer in “Laguna”pairs beautifully with NARS blush in”Orgasm” for a dynamic duo that works double time
  • Guerlain in “Terracotta, Fair” - (will work nicely for blondes also)
  • NARS in “Angelika”for pinker days

Whether you favor blush or bronzer, don’t neglect your neck! Take one sweep of the brush down your jaw line and onto your neck for a natural-looking glow.

Red hair can make any day look dramatic. Whether you have dark brown eyes, light baby blues, bright emerald peepers or hazel eyes, eye shadow colors are a vital part of your total look. Keep it toned down and simple with these great shades for your lids.

  1. Purple Is the New Brown: Start with an eyelid primer; then sweep on some neutral, soft shadow as a base. Then apply a generous amount of a “crushed lilac” color- just one or two brush strokes will be fine. For the final pop of color, add a darker plum over the lighter purple. The effect on brown eyes and fair skin is lovely- soft and subtle but still exciting enough for a night out. (use Trish McEvoy)
  2. All That Glitters: Redheads know how to be seen and make a dramatic entrance. Embrace the spotlight with a stunning, sultry look on your lids. Gold will enhance almost every eye color, and will definitely accentuate gold highlights and undertones in your copper mane. You can go for all-out glitter and shine, or keep it more casual, but gold is an absolute must-try shadow for any redhead!
  3. The Emerald Isle: There’s a reason redheads love St. Patrick’s Day, and not just for the beverages. You look amazing in almost every shade of green, so why not carry that color over to your makeup? To prevent the 80’s neon green look, keep it simple and soft with rich, warm tones. A muted celadon or clover will add just a bit of festivity when applied over a beige base coat. For a formal evening, though, bold emerald is the way to go. Be sure to prep the eyelid with plenty of primer, and again, a neutral, shimmer-free base coat of beige shadow. Then, using a wide, flat brush, take a sweep or two of the most dramatic green you can find. If it’s too much, apply some more beige on top to keep it understated.
  4. Stick with the basics: If you’re a tried-and-true brown eyeshadow gal, why mess with what’s perfect? There are so many fantastic shades of brown you can play with to change up your daily look. A deep mocha will enhance a black eyeliner, and a softer chestnut color will work well for a more neutral look for daytime. I admire Teri Hatcher’s understated smoky eye, which really makes her big brown eyes pop but is still suitable for those of us off Wisteria Lane.
