For this tutorial, you will need:
- Scotch tape. Unless your an artistic pro and choose to use nail art brushes, you're going to want to mark off the section. You can use French manicure nail guide strips (a few bucks at a drug store or beauty supply store). Or if you don't have them on hand and don't have time to run out and get them, you can get creative! You can use scotch or painters tape, a sticker with a rounded edge, or hole punch reinforcements. Go dig through your old school supplies to find the perfect trick!
- Two nail polish colors of your choice. If your going for subtle-You can stick with similar colors that will blend/transition together.

What do you think of when you first hear “Half Moon”? – No, it’s not the newest addition to Stephanie Myers Twilight Saga! It’s actually a manicure trend that’s been taking off with top celebs for awhile now. If you’re fearless with your fingertips than you’ll most likely warm up to this trend rather quickly. If you (like me) like to stay a little more traditional, (think french manicure) than you may need to ease into this a little at a time. Whichever you prefer, have no fear! There is a half-moon combo that will fit your liking. Now obviously you can always head to your local nail salon to have them do this for you… but whats the fun in that? Think of how proud you will be when you get all those compliments on your nails and you get to brag about how you actually did it yourself! Trust me, if you follow these instructions to the T, the compliments will come pouring in!
- Choose one of the colors as a base. Apply nail polish as usual. (I’m going for a pink base!)
- After base coat is COMPLETELY dry, tape off the ‘moon’ section. You can make the section as big or small as you want. It’s up to you.
- Apply second color to exposed section of the nail.
- Carefully remove tape after the second color has completely dried and apply a top coat to make nails shine!
And there you have it! You have just given yourself a chic manicure. Your tips are now in competition with top celebs out there on the Hollywood scene, and the best part is you did it on your own. So now that you have experimented with the half-moon manicure, the next time you attack this trend it will be even easier. Play around with colors! Mix it up! You can use this all year round (just update your mani with the ‘it’ colors for the season)!
