Kouturekiss - A Valentines Day Love Mani

Want a sweet “love” themed manicure for Valentines Day? Here’s how to get one at home in just five easy steps. You will need a base coat, a top coat, a pink glitter polish, a red polish, a sharpie marker and an eyeliner brush.

  1. Prep your nails with your favorite base coat or nail hardener. I used a sticky base coat to help keep the polish from chipping, longer.
  2. Choose a nail to use as an accent nail and paint it with your pink glitter polish.
  3. Once the pink glitter is dry, use your sharpie marker to plot out a heart in the center of the nail. If you do not have a steady enough hand to draw the lines don’t worry! Just make little dots to make the shape of a heart. You are going to paint over the lines anyway. I suggest using a light color so that it is easier to cover with the red polish. (more…)

Mani-Ready! How to Exfoliate, Buff and File Pre Manicure, Salon Style!

January 10, 2013

Kouturekiss - Welcome To Mani Prep School
You know how sometimes you try to paint your own nails at home to save time and money, but it never really looks as nice as when they do it at a salon? Well don’t fret ladies, It’s time to learn how to prep your nails in 8 quick steps!

  1. Use acetone and a cotton pad to remove any old nail polish that may still be on your nails. Cotton pads are perfect because they don’t fall apart as you rub, and still get the polish off quickly and completely! And, by using 100% acetone to remove the polish, you will help sweep away any oils that could cause premature chipping.
  2. Time to file! Use a nail file to gently shape your nails the way you like them. I like the “Squoval” shape, because it is modern and square, and the rounded edges help prevent the nails from breaking. It is important to do this step before you get the nails wet, because wet nails are weaker and we don’t want them to snag while we file! (more…)

Break Into 2013 With The Glitter Pop Eye!

January 2, 2013

A new year means a fresh start and a great chance to try new things. For 2013, spice up your makeup look with the glitter pop eye. This look works for day or evening and you can create it in just six easy steps.

  1. Start with a primed eye and apply a medium toned mauve eye shadow to the mobile lid, blending into the crease with a slightly darker plum shade.
  2. Add a pinkish white highlight shade to the inner corner of the eye and right under the brow bone. This may seem very subtle, but it’s the small details that make the look more finished in the end. This is also a good time to go back into the crease with the plum if you think you need more definition.
  3. Take a dark brown eyeliner pencil and line your upper lash line and lower waterline. To make this more subtle, blend it with a small buffing brush, making sure to buff it in to meet with the plum shade near the crease.
  4. Now for the fun part, the glitter! Use your favorite loose glitter on your ring finger and dab it onto the center of the mobile lid. Take the same glitter and dab it on the inner corner of the eye with a lip brush. This adds a nice highlight and gives the eye a really special glam appearance that is still very wearable. If you want the look to last all night, you can use a glitter adhesive or even a sheer glitter liner under the glitter to make it stick on tight. (more…)
