Hair Length: Hair Texture:

Let’s face it: summer came and went too soon, but for this next tutorial you wont need the beach to have waves in your hair. For a while, every time I seen a “beachy waves” tutorial, I’ve needed sea salt from the ocean. Personally, my hair is already dry, so when I did try the spray it made it really dry (it is salt after all). Ultimately after trials and errors I found a way of achieving this look without having to dry my hair or apply lots of chemicals.

1 & 2. Start off by using a root awakening or volumizing shampoo or leave in treatment. I use John Frida Root awakening shampoo – it gives you shine and gives and boost to you roots for bouncy hair. After you brush your hair apply a leave in treatment to protect your hair from the heat you’ll be applying. Anti heat products prevent damage from occurring to your hair. I use Joico K-Pak reconstruct leave in protectant. This product is amazing not only does it tames frizz but keeps your volume all while still preventing breakage from the heat. Face your blow dryer down as you brush through your hair if you want a smooth surface use a boar or vented brush. If you want more of a tousled look skip the brush and use your fingers. Make sure you separate your hair in pieces your brush/fingers will be able to grasp. Tip: by keeping your blow dryer facing down you will prevent frizz hair but if you hair really has no volume tip your head over and blow dry from the roots to the front of your hair USE your fingers while doing this instead of your brush tip your hair back and finish the front with your brush.

3. Separate your hair into two pieces by parting down the middle. Clip your left side up and grab a medium size of hair from your right side down and clip the rest of it up.

4. Use and 1 inch curling iron and face it down. Grab about a 1-inch size of hair and wrap it away from your face. Hold it for no longer than 10 seconds and let it loose. Tip: don’t keep your hair wrapped for a long time because this will give you a well-defined curl and for this look you want loose waves.

5 – 10. Do the same with the rest of your hair. When you get to those hard to reach strands in the back of your hair lift your hair up and face the curling iron in a vertical way and then wrap your hair around. When you get grip of the end tightly move the curling iron in a horizontal way.

11 + 12. When all of your hair is curled take a dime sized amount (for long/thick hair take a quarter size) of shine oil and mix it together in the palm of your hands and run your fingers through the curls. This will break your curls and give you lots of volume and shine. Run your fingers through your hair twice if you want more of a tousled look.

13 + 14. Spray hair spray through out your hair. For a bigger volume tilt your head forward and spray your hair from the roots to the front of your hair.

Voila! Who said you needed the beach to rock sexy waves.
