The Flower Band

Kouturekiss - The Flower Band

I’m all about taking a ‘go-to’ hairstyle and spicing it up a bit! The tutorial today is a perfect example of that! I have naturally curly hair, so keeping it straight during the summer is a pretty risky move. So, to soften the effects of the inevitable humidity, I usually wear a portion of my hair pinned up to tame any unruly effects! Follow the steps below to amp up this average ‘do’!

Steps 1 & 2 – Starting with your hair down, take two sections of hair from the front of your face frame. (Right about the ears is a safe spot.)
Step 3 – Secure the two pieces in the back center of your head with a small elastic.
Step 4 – Braid the pieces together in a simple 3 strand braid and secure with another elastic.
Steps 5 & 6 – Using your pointer finger and your thumb, gently tug on sections of the braid until you have little loops (or in this case, ‘petals’!).
Step 7 – Wrap your braid into a circular shape (it should resemble a flower) and secure it in place with bobby pins!

Voila! And there you have it! In five simple steps you turned a safe go-to hairstyle into a new trendy look! This style is super simple, versatile and works great on almost any hair length and hair type! So grab your tools, get creative and amp up your go-to style today!

Poof Action, A La The Red Carpet!

Kouturekiss - Poof Action - Amp The Volume
We all admire the glamourous red carpet hairstyles and this one in particular can be easily recreated.

  1. Brush out your hair’s natural texture, you can do this look with straight or curly hair.
  2. Section off your hair into a mohawk part.
  3. Tease that section until it has a large amount of volume, aka - the Poof!
  4. Tightly pin back the sides of your hair against your head.
  5. Gently brush over the teased section so that it looks smooth.

You can pull your hair back into a pony, or leave it down for your glamourous red carpet look! Voila!

Crimp Craze

Kouturekiss _ Crimp Craze

  1. Start with dry hair in its natural texture. I also applied a curl-enhancing mousse while my hair was damp to help with creating the waves. I used Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse.
  2. Divide your hair into 6 sections. Make them as equal as you can so that the crimps are consistent with one another. You are also going to apply your heat protectant at this point. I used TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Leave-In Spray. After you brush through each section, begin braiding them and tie off the ends with a hair elastic (try not to use rubber so that you don’t need to worry about the hair straightener burning them into your hair).
  3. Run your hair straightener over each section. I held mine on each section of each braid for about 10 seconds and then ran them through a second time to make sure that the wave would hold.
  4. Let your hair completely cool off and then undo each of your braids. Spritz with a little hair spray (I used TRESemme Tres Two Spray) and voila! Perfect, crimped waves hair in under 30 minutes!
