The Ultimate Faux Hawk

Disclaimer: This hairstyle is for the bold, brave and ultra glamorous! It also takes a tad bit longer than most tutorials I have posted. If you’re up for the challenge, check out the steps below for the Ultimate Faux Hawk!

Step 1: Curl your hair. For the best results, try to make tight curls and clip them up to let them set for a few minutes. The more volume you start with, the better!

Step 2: Divide your hair into three sections: The top section needs to be clipped up out of the way, the Middle section needs to be a sleek, tightly secured ponytail, and the bottom section needs to be a low ponytail.

Steps 3 & 4: Once the bottom section is secured into an elastic, take your middle section and make sure it is tight and sleek on both sides (this is the part of the hairstyle that gives the necessary ‘faux hawk’ impression!). Take some of the curls and secure with bobby pins to cover the base of the bottom ponytail.

Step 5: Here is the fun part! Starting with the back of the top section working your way forward, begin to tease and pin portions of the hair back. This is crucial to give the end result volume.

Steps 6, 7, and 8: Do a once over and secure any loose pieces in place, then spray with hairspray!

Voila! Keep in mind that this edgy hairstyle pairs great with a super girly ensemble! Play around with this look and dress it up with glam accessories and bold red lip! Enjoy!

A Sweet & Simple Updo

Kouturekiss _ So Sweet Half Up Half Down

Step 1: Begin with your hair in either it’s natural texture, or curled. I decided to curl my hair to make the look a little more romantic.
Step 2: Part your hair how you want it and section off a 1-2 inch section starting at the beginning of the part down to the ear.
Steps 3 & 4: Pin the section behind your ear using a bobby pin.
Step 5: Section off the top 1/3 of your hair, being careful not to ruin the section you just pinned.
Step 6: Using a boar bristle brush, tease this section of hair.
Step 7: Smooth the top of the hair and pull it back.
Step 8: Tie the section off with an elastic.
Step 9: Take a 1 inch section out of bottom of the ponytail.
Step 10: Wrap it around the ponytail until it reaches the end and hold in place with a bobby pin. Spray on a small amount of hairspray and… voila!

Perfect the Blowout

Kouturekiss _ Blow It Out

  1. Begin with your hair washed and still wet (or damp). I also applied a heat protectant to protect my hair from any damage the blow dryer may cause. The one I used was TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Leave-In Spray.
  2. Begin sectioning off 2-3 inch sections (depending on what size hair rollers you’re using and the length and thickness of your hair).
  3. Take out one section and begin blow drying with a boar bristle brush to help dry all the hair.
  4. Wrap your hair around a hair roller and secure it with a bobby pin.
  5. Continue doing this to each section until each section is complete.
  6. Spray with hair spray (I used TRESemme Tres Two Spray). I like to let my rollers set for about 10-15 minutes before I take them out.
  7. Gently unclip and unwrap one section at a time until all of the sections are out.
  8. Apply a small amount of shine serum to get rid of any frizziness the rollers may have caused. I used Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shine Glistening Drops.
  9. Shake out your hair and voila!

The Looped Twist

Kouturekiss _ Get Loopy

  1. Begin with your hair in it’s natural texture. This hairstyle works best if you begin with a middle part, but you could do a side part as well.
  2. Pull all of your hair into a side ponytail.
  3. Section the hair above the ponytail into two parts.
  4. Pull the ponytail backwards through the hole you just made.
  5. Gently tighten the ponytail to make sure it’s secure
  6. Gently pull the hair above the ponytail to loosen it up a little.
  7. Wrap another ponytail around the hair about 2 inches below the one above it (depending on how thick your hair is), and make another hole for the hair to go through.
  8. Pull the hair through and gently pull just like you did before.
  9. Continue doing this until you reach the end, and… voila!
