Kouturekiss - The Copper Smokey Eye For The Green Eyed Girl

Colored shadows can be tricky to work with, but you can’t go wrong with shades of brown and copper since it works well with practically every skin tone and eye color. Browns are great for everyday wear since the natural shadows of your lids are a brownish red. Eyes are the first thing people notice; make them clean, defined, beautiful and not too distracting. You want people to notice you, not your heavy makeup so here’s a way to give your eyes that bit of pop it needs without being overdone. This is a great basic everyday look that can be changed up easily and worn for any occasion.

Step 1: Start with clean eyes and apply primer all over the lid up to your brow bone. Elf Primer is a great alternative to Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. For only 1 dollar compared to a 20 dollar primer, it’s a must have.
Step 2: Apply a red toned brown shadow all over the lid up to the crease with a wide blending brush. Mac’s Brown Script is matte and has great pigmentation with no fallout. (more…)

Learn to Apply Faux Lashes like a Pro

False lashes seem to make the world of difference in an eye look, but the application process tends to get messy and complicated. Use these steps to make the task a breeze!

  1. Gather your supplies. You’ll need a curler, faux lashes, lash glue, and mascara.
  2. Start off by measuring the false lash against your natural lash. You don’t want the false lash to be any longer lengthwise, so clip the ends if necessary.
  3. Apply a thin layer of lash glue (I love DUO Lash Adhesive in black – it dries black instead of white, making it much easier to conceal with makeup). Focus the glue on the ends of the false lash, as this is where the lashes tend to loosen the easiest. (more…)

Eyelash Curling vs. Eyelash Priming – What Really Makes A Difference?

Sometimes, I wonder if the small steps in my makeup routine actually make a difference. I decided to test it out -what really works when it comes to eyelash curlers, primers, and mascaras? Are the extra steps (the time spent curling and priming) really making a difference? You tell me!

No curler, no primer, no mascara: Here, you can see my lashes without any products or tools used. No lash curling, no primer, no mascara!

Curler, no primer, no mascara: Here, you can see what my lashes look like curled, again with no product over top.

No curler, no primer, mascaraHere, you can see what my lashes look like with just mascara.

Curler, no primer, mascaraHere, you can see what my lashes look like curled with mascara, however, without primer.

No curler, primer, mascara: Here, you can see my lashes with primer and mascara, without curling.

Curler, primer, mascara: Here, you can see my lashes with the whole deal – curling, primer and mascara.

At the end of the day, every little step will make a difference. If you have time to curl and prime your lashes in the morning, do both… it can’t hurt! However, if you only have the time (or patience) for one extra lash-related step, I’d say go with the primer!

Eye Color:

Nautical themes are always on trend for summer. For this look I took inspiration from the M.A.C. collection “Hey Sailor”. The look is nautical with a smoky eye in navy blue, and a little hint of white that screams I’m ready to rock the boat.

Here is the simple how to:

  1. Start with a primer as always to ensure a long lasting look. I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance, or Mac Paint Pot in Painterly. Apply a flesh toned eye shadow to start with a light base for the navy shades. Apply all over lid up to brow bone.  (more…)

Eye Color: ,

If you’re a fan of the smoky eye, you know there is way more to it than smearing a layer of dark shadow on your lids. With that being said, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to create a smoky eye, either. The trick is to achieve a sexy smoldering eye while making your natural eye color pop. Brown eyed girls can opt for a deep pink or plum shade. Follow the steps below for the perfect smokey eye.

  1. Sweep the lightest of your three shade across your entire lid. Be sure to sweep this lightly from the lash line to the brow bone to get even coverage.
  2. Dab your second (darker) shade on the ball of the eye (lower lid) from inner to outer corner to build color. (more…)
