Candy Cane Mani

December 7, 2012

Christmas is coming and with Christmas comes joy and happy manicures! Be honest, even though it’s November; you can already hear the Jingly bells ringing! You should totally treat yourself on yummy candy cane nails!

  1. Apply a coat of red nail polish. Let it dry well. If necessary apply another coat and let this try well too.
  2. Paint white, diagonal stripes on top of the red. Use a nail polish with a striper brush. This makes it easy to draw the stripes! Some nail polishes are sold with a striper brush, instead of a normal brush, but you can also buy an individual striper brush. They’re not that expensive and really useful with nail art! If you want them to be perfect, you can use tape. But it’s okay if it’s not perfect! To keep it fun, skip the thumb and the ring finger. (more…)

The “I Voted” Mani

November 4, 2012

Election day is right around the corner. (can someone say less than 48 hours away!) Before you head to your local polling place, master your skill and show off your voting pride with this fun & fashionable “I Voted” mani! (or, for those that are not eligible to vote just yet, you can always support your soon-to-be voting price in this artistic and fashionable way!)

Step 1. Start with applying a base coat. If you want to protect your nails (and for the polish to last longer) – a base coat is a must.
Step 2. Paint all of your nails red except for your ring finger. I’m using “Fifth Avenue” by Essie – it’s a true red with a creamy texture.
Step 3. Apply a deep blue polish to your ring finger. I’m using “Model Behavior” by Sally Hansen. It’s on the lighter side so if you have a deeper blue use it. Let your nails dry for about two minutes before moving on to the next step.
Steps 4-7. Use a white liner nail polish to make a square. Start off by making two horizontal lines and then two vertical lines to connect all the sides of the square. (more…)

The Polka Dot Mani

October 29, 2012

Who says that polka dot nails are boring? We think polka dots can be totally sexy and mysterious! And applying them to a mani is simple, too!

  1. Start with a base coat. After applying your base coat, apply a layer of black nail polish. If your nail polish doesn’t cover properly, add another layer.
  2. After your nail polish dried, apply a matte topcoat. It’s important you let the coats dry! You don’t want to ruin your mani, do you? (more…)
