Hot Pink Lips for the Olive Skinned Girl

June 23, 2012

Olive skinned girls have no problem pulling off the hot pink lip look as long as the pinks are warm-toned. This is important because warm tones will work with the olive skin color. A good way to check to see that you are purchasing a good pink is to swatch it on your arm. A good pink will compliment the tones of your skin, rather than clash against them.

In case you are unsure how to judge what clashes and what compliments, I swatched four hot pink colors that will work for any olive skinned girl. The hot pink lip is the perfect option when you are on-the-go during the summer. It works in the same way that a red lip does in the winter months – a sophisticated look that works best with simple makeup, since the lips are such a powerful element to the look.  (more…)

Master Orange, Tangerine, and Clementine Colored Lips For Warm Undertones

June 13, 2012

Orange is everywhere this season, however, not every shade of orange is for everyone. Once you have found your perfect shade of orange, there are only so many ways you can learn to master it. The first thing you want to do is make sure that the rest of your makeup is kept as simple as possible. For an orange gloss, I recommend using a light and matte bronzer so that your skin doesn’t reflect the same orange hue as your lips. Keep your eyes simple: opt for the cat-eye look by extending the lining on your upper lash line out a little bit. Add a touch of mascara to complete the look. Of course, keeping it simple is not for everyone, you can always play around by only wearing mascara and adding a peach colored blush to your cheekbones.

Get The Perfect Pink Pout – For Dark Complexions

May 30, 2012

One myth when it comes to women of color, especially dark skinned women, is that we can’t rock pink lips. Over the past few years, many stars such as Nicki Minaj, have shown us that we can pull off the perfect pink pout. However, when choosing the right shade of pink, be cautious: stay away from light pale pinks because they do not compliment the inner hue of your skin tone. Instead, opt for deeper pinks, in shades of fuchsia, mauve, and magenta. Paired with a cute cat eye and lots of mascara, you’ll look like just hopped off the red carpet!  (more…)

How To Wear Red Lipstick, The Right Way!

May 24, 2012

A red lip is the most classic look in the world of beauty. When done right, it is super sophisticated, elegant and sexy. Here’s how to achieve the look effortlessly:

  1. Find a red that works with (compliments) your skin tone. There are tons of posts on this website that can help you find the best red for your skin but, ideally, warmer skin tones should aim for reds with warmer bases, while the cooler skin tones should lean more towards the reds with “blue” tones.
  2. Conceal your lips so the red shows up true to color. Do this by applying a creamy concealer overtop your lips and then lightly brush your face powder over your lips so the concealer sets.
