Blush It Up This Winter!

December 28, 2012

It is officially winter, and the holiday season is a great time to experiment with fun new colors in blushes to bring more life to your pretty face. Personally, I prefer powder blushes for the fall and winter and go for a more dewy finish with cream blushes towards summer. I’ve picked out the top four blushes that I reach for most during the wintertime. All these blushes are cool toned and range from $30 to as low as $3.  (more…)

The Taupe & Nude Eye For The Brown Eyed, Olive Skinned Girl

September 18, 2012

A key way to make your eyes stand out is by mastering the smokey eye. Another key way is to find out what colors really make your eyes pop. As a fellow member of the brown eyed community, taupes and greens are top tier to making those babies look their best. In this tutorial, I chose a deep taupe and as an accent a wonderful ligher taupe to add some dimension.

  1. Firstly, apply the deeper taupe all over your lid focusing on the crease and outer corner. This all depends on your eye shape and, if it helps, instead of closing your eye, apply the colors with you looking straight ahead to ensure that every aspect of the smokey eye is visible. This is a great tip, especially if you have hooded eyes.
  2. Next, concentrate that lighter taupe into the first half of your eye and the inner corner. Since the color is lighter than the deep taupe, it will open up your eye making you look more awake.
  3. Be sure to blend in all the colors! Now, with a color closest to your skin tone with a bit of shimmer (I’m using a champagne color) add that as a highlight to your brow bone. With such a smokey look, you want to bring in light to your eye area.
  4. Add multiple coats of mascara and you are ready to go!

A Late Summer Sunset-Inspired Smokey Eye

September 7, 2012

What better way to embrace the natural colors of a late summer sunset than in your eye makeup? This look incorporates the colors of the warm summer sun, while still being a wearable and fun look for any night out. It’s super simple and extremely eye-catching once completed. Here’s how to get the look.

  1. Start off by applying a warm, orange-toned base to your lid and a white base to your inner corner. This will make the orange shadows later applied feel warmer and more vibrant on your lid, while the white in the inner corner will work as a brightening agent for highlighting. (more…)

For the Brown Eyed Girl – How to Perfect the Smoky Eye

June 5, 2012

If you’re a fan of the smoky eye, you know there is way more to it than smearing a layer of dark shadow on your lids. With that being said, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to create a smoky eye, either. The trick is to achieve a sexy smoldering eye while making your natural eye color pop. Brown eyed girls can opt for a deep pink or plum shade. Follow the steps below for the perfect smokey eye.

  1. Sweep the lightest of your three shade across your entire lid. Be sure to sweep this lightly from the lash line to the brow bone to get even coverage.
  2. Dab your second (darker) shade on the ball of the eye (lower lid) from inner to outer corner to build color. (more…)
