The Braided Bun

November 25, 2012

The bun has been a classic hairstyle for, well, forever! Yet the style always finds a way to keep current with the times. The hairdo once seen as an easy last minute style, has now transformed into a trendy accessory! Among the many variations is the almost effortlessly chic braided bun. Follow the steps below to snag this look!

  1. Begin with straight, clean hair. Brush hair to remove any tangles. This step is crucial when braiding!
  2. Section off where you’d like to start your braid. Next, leave a few strands down in the front and pin out of the way. (This part is optional but up-do’s always look great with a few strands out to frame the face!).
  3. Start your braid. You can do a few different braids but i’m going to do a half french braid (this means when braiding i’m only going to take extra pieces from the bottom half of the braid as opposed to both when doing a normal french braid).
  4. Braid until you’re a little passed your ear. Then finish off the braid and secure with an elastic. If you’d like you can repeat this step on the other side of your head as well.
  5. Pull the braid to the back of your head.
  6. Secure both side-braids in a small elastic.
  7. Gather hair low to the nape of your neck. Gather hair into a loose bun.
  8. Then, make a hole in the center of your hair above where your bun is secured.
  9. Flip the bun up and into the hole.
  10. Curl the strands that frame your face and add a cute accessory to dress up your bun! Voila!

Once you’ve mastered the braided bun, play around with it! There are so many variations you can use. Switch the french braid for a waterfall braid, or start your braid higher so you can finish with  a higher bun instead of a lower finish! Once you find your favorite braid/bun combo this hairstyle is sure to become your new favorite go-to!
