Get The Perfect Volume-Infused Blowout – For The Fine Haired Girl

August 22, 2012

Fine haired girls have the hardest time achieving volume, only because we have so much less hair to work with. However, there’s tricks and tips to beat the problem and it’s a super easy one to solve!

Before the blowout….

  • Be sure to use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. I use one from Pantene because it is specifically for fine and flat hair and it works to create volume.
  • Spray a thickening spray throughout your hair before drying it – I love the Bumble and Bumble thickening spray because it does the job without changing the texture of your hair.
  • When your hair is wet, toss it up in a bun. This not only minimizes the amount of damage you do to your hair from blowdrying (since you give it some time to air dry), but it gives some dimension and volume to your hair before you even start the blowout!
  • Buy an extension for your blowdryer that focuses the heat. This helps direct the heat into a smaller direction, augmenting the force and precision.

During the blowout…

  • Flip your head over and blow dry your roots from behind. Blowing your hair in this direction adds volume because you’re forcing the roots to dry in a direction that is opposite of the direction it normally dries in. The result… Massive volume.
  • Use a round brush and again blow your hair in the opposite direction of it’s normal flow. Round brushes are an amazing tool when you are trying to achieve tons of volume because they give your hair a small and natural curl that truly adds dimension after drying.

After the blowout…

  • Use a volumizing powder and massage it into your roots. I love the Got 2 B powder because once you work it into your hands, it changes to a more liquid-like consistency that makes it really easy to work into and cling to your roots for a full look.
  • Use a teasing comb at the roots of various strands to really add some dimension. Do this by backcombing your roots until they appear textured and teased.
  • Flip over your head and apply a volumizing hairspray from behind. I love the Big Sexy Hair Spray because it really holds my hair without making my strands feel hard and starchy. Also try covering your face and spray the front of your hair so your front strands appear to naturally flow backwards.

I hope these tips help you add dimension and volume to your hair! Don’t be discouraged by your fine hair when it comes to volume and use these tips to prove it’s no big problem! Have fun!
