Manicures of all varying kinds were all the rage on the runway during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for Fall 2012. From Nicole Miller’s “Time Machine” manicures, to 3.1 Phillip Lim’s “Neo-Noir Girl” nails, nail art was the thing. Below are the hottest ten nail trends to try, as seen on the runways of many different yet fabulous designers.

1. Glitter

Glitter nails have always been a popular shade for festive parties, but with Alice+Olivia’s black and gold glitter nail polish, it is more textured than shiny, and can be worn for absolutely any occasion.

2.Southwestern

With one big trend being southwestern this fall, it was no surprise that there would be a nail look to match the big clothing trend. Pair with a simple and casual outfit to complete the look.

3. Stripes

Also seen on the runways were striped garments, and to match the pieces were the striped manicures seen on the runways of Betsey Johnson and Ruffian.

4. Double reverse French

If you want an up-to-date and current French manicure, go for the double reverse French manicure. More daring than the classic, this is the newest look in French manicures that is fresh and exciting.

5. Swirls

Nicole Miller had her models nails painted to look like the time machine swirls you see in movies, using bright colors such as yellow, fuchsia, and blue.

6. Matching to your outfit

Various designs were re-created on models nails to match the clothes they were wearing, and seen on the runway of Rachel Antonoff, each model had fern replicas that complimented her fern motif. For Fall 2012, it won’t be just about matching the color, but the patternto your outfit.

7. Black and White

3.1 Phillip Lim had each of his models nails painted with what I like to call “The New Black.” Taking on a very modern feel, each model had half their nail painted black, with a white curved line following the edge of their nail.
8. Seeing stars

Another trend taken from the runways was a dark navy blue nail, with tiny stars on top of the navy. To get the look, a sponge was taken dipped in white and dabbed lightly over the navy.

9. Mercury Mani

Futuristic, funky, and new, the mercury mani is a trend that was seen at the Behnaz Serafpour show. To get the look, buy reflective nail wraps, or for a more subdued look coat multiple layers of metallic silver polish that has a little bit of micro shimmer in it.

10. Burgundy

Finally, a different shade in the red family, burgundy, popped up on the runways of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Burgundy is going to be a big nail trend for fall 2012, as seen on the runway of Naeem Kahn.
The hottest ten nail trends straight from the runway are easy to find and can be adaptable to anyone’s manicure. Whichever you choose, you’re bound to look fabulous and be trendy!
